485-b Tax Abatement Law
The towns of Bristol, East Bloomfield and West Bloomfield have a Tax Abatement Law, known as a 485-b. This is a ten year, reduced tax program for businesses. It applies to a new building or improvements to an existing building.

Improvements in access of $10,000 apply

Year 1 - taxed on 50% of assessed value
Year 2 - 55%
Year 3 - 60%
Year 4 - 65%
Year 5 - 70%
Year 6 - 75%
Year 7 - 80%
Year 8 - 85%
Year 9 - 90%
Year 10 - 95%
Year 11, the program is over, and you are taxed at 100% of assessed value

The town of West Bloomfield has recently completed a long-term master plan, and is looking for all types of businesses to locate within the town. Properties are being rezoned for a more business-friendly environment.

A number of reclaimed mine/gravel pit sites are for sale and/or lease. These sites would make excellent locations for tourism and agri-tourism businesses:
  • Club house and riding area for a regional snowmobile club

  • Horse back riding stable and trails

  • Fun Center featuring a go-kart track, batting cages, mini golf, and a jet ski and paddle boat rental
